You are running out of time! The United Kingdom will effectively leave the European Union in January 2021. However, UK driving licences will only be valid in Spain until 31st December 2020. Do you want to drive in our country? We can help you with this simple procedure.

Can I drive in Spain with a foreign driving licence?

All driving licences from EU countries, the UK until the end of this year, and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway can be used in Spain, providing they are valid and the driver is at least 18 years old.

Validating and changing your driving licence to a Spanish one is voluntary since the foreign one is also legal and you won’t have any problem with it.

In the case of the UK, however, you will not be able to drive around Spain when this year finishes, so you need to validate or renew your licence before that date.

What do I need to validate my licence?

  • The validation form
  • A valid ID, NIE, or passport
  • Residence proof. If you are not from the EU, you will need to show the certificate of your foreign registry.
  • Your valid driving licence
  • Confirmation of payment. This procedure is 28,30 €.
  • A 32×26 mm picture

You can apply for the Spanish licence validation online or going to any Traffic Office near you after scheduling an appointment.

After you do all of this, you will receive a temporary licence you can use to drive within the Spanish territory since the actual driving licence can take up to a month and a half to arrive.

Do you need help with any traffic procedures? Remember that a Gestor Administrativo can make your move to Spain process much easier. Trust us with your paperwork!
